Vesterbro is located close to Copenhagen’s city center making it a good place to stay as it is close to the major sights. The area has been heavily renovated over the last couple of years. The neighborhood has many occasions for shopping as there are numerous new fashion stores.

Beth Mitesse: Vesterbro used to be a really poor area of Copenhagen, a place where the immigrants went to live in over-crowded slums. Now it’s known as one of the “hip” areas with lots of art galleries, cafes, and shopping (oh, and the red light district).

Vesterbro is the areas where most Copenhageners come to eat. There is an enormous variety of choices in restaurants. The area has more than 250 restaurants and take away places offering food from all over the world. You will need weeks to experience it all.


Distortion Festival in Copenhagen

Distortion fills the streets in Copenhagen with 44+ local sound systems and 80.000+ guests from all over the world. This takes place every day in a new part of town in central Copenhagen: Nørrebro on Wednesday, Vesterbro on Thursday, the Copenhagen harbour on Friday.

Marcus Palm: Distortion Vesterbro offers Børnedistortion (Distortion for kids), Københavnermiddag (pop-up dinner with 200m-long table) and around 40 local shops, residents, galleries, associations, churches, labels and other local sound systems, turning Vesterbro into a magic party garden.



Main attractions

  • The Istedgade is a 1 km long street that cut through one of the hippest neighborhoods of the city. It is the heart of Vesterbro and packed with notable cafés and bars and fashion stores.
  • Det Nye Teater (New Theatre) located at the Gammel Kongevej is one of Denmark’s largest theatres. The theatre is one of the most beautiful of Europe and has great facilities.
  • Interesting shopping areas are around the Tullingsgade and Værnedamsvej. The Tove’s Galleri in the Vesterbrogade has also a wide range of independent fashion and design stores.
