Going to the beach from Amsterdam

Bloemendaal aan Zee

Zandvoort aan zee (Zandvoort Beach)

Zandvoort aan Zee is a crowded and built-up beach hotspot and can easily be reached by train. A seafront boulevard with its town centre and many shops and restaurants, in addition to hotels for overnight stays. The beach is most popular among families, German tourist and locals. The only beach most easy to reach from Amsterdam, it is also popular among Amsterdam hipsters and expats.

Zandvoort aan Zee is also home to two golf courses and a race circuit.

Bloemendaal aan Zee

Bloemendaal aan Zee is a beach resort  next to Zandvoort aan Zee and famous for its beach parties. Beach houses with relaxing sofas and cushions with people enjoying food, cocktails and music. Spectacular sunsets are accompanied by sounds from the decks. During weekends, the beach bars turn into beach clubs with big name DJ’s serving hip crowd.

Bloemendaal aan Zee is part of a national park Zuid-Kennemerland and much calmer than Zandvoort. The expanses of dunes in this easy day trip from Amsterdam are worth a visit to clear your head and soak up some nature. From Haarlem, this coastal area is only a 15-minute bus ride away and the two could easily be combined.

Beaches in Netherlands offer a retreat for the people stressed by the buzzing city life of the Dutch cities. When I was staying in Amsterdam last year, I almost always used to visit the Zandvoort aan Zee beach in the weekends to rejuvenate myself for the next week. The clear blue sky and the ocean water washes away the fatigue of the body. Even laying lazily on the sand in the Sun re-vitalizes the cells of the body. This is precisely the reason why the Dutch beaches attract far more crowd on weekends than on weekdays.
